How to Get Your Iowa Real Estate License
- Register with the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau – Create a My Iowa PLB account to get started.
- Request a Background Check Packet – Submit a request online (takes 8-10 weeks). Fee: $51.
- Complete a 60-Hour Pre-License Course – Choose an Iowa Real Estate Commission-approved course (available online or in-person).
- Pass the Iowa Licensing Exam – Administered by PSI; costs $95 per attempt. Must pass within six months of taking the course.
- Take an Additional 36 Hours of Courses – Required topics: Buying Practices, Listing Practices, and Professionalism & Ethics.
- Obtain Errors & Omissions Insurance – Must be secured before applying for a license.
- Apply for Your License – Submit your exam pass notice, course completion certificates, and insurance proof to the Iowa Real Estate Commission.
